Whole Foods and Natural Cooking Challenge

The steps are in place, my family is starting a new challenge this weekend. We have gone to our local library and got cookbooks on Organic, Natural, Fresh, and Low Fat Simple Cooking. We went last night to a new grocery store to find the many foreign items on our grocery list. The fact the store was huge, it was our first time there, and that we have never purchased or looked for 1/2 of the items on our list before made for a very long 2 hour shopping.

My husband and I have decided together that we are going to start cooking simple, and we want to know what is in our foods and enjoy the fact of what will no longer be in our foods like the processed items, preservatives, and high fructose corn syrup. We are going to start making our own snacks and eating more fresh fruits and veggies.

Our grocery list contained some items as follows:

  • Oat Bran
  • Macadamia nuts
  • walnuts
  • Natural cane Sugar
  • Whole Wheat Pastry Flour
  • Almond Flour and Mesquite Flour
  • Toasted Wheat Germ
  • Sunflower seeds, almonds, and dried fruits
  • Brown Rice Syrup
  • Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans, Carrots, Cherry tomatoes, broccoli, apples, and ONIONS... (those of you who know me know that Onions are a big deal for me to eat)
Breakfast Recipes this week include:

Granola and Yogurt (Greek)
Banana Bread
Morning Glory Muffins
Scrambled Eggs and Toast
Orange and Pinneapple Fruit salad
Nuts about fruit salad

Snacks include (for family and my daycare kids)

Granola and yogurt
Oat and Nut crunch mix

Dinners include:

Wild Rice and Whole Chicken in Crock-pot
Shredded Green Beans and Pork Chops
10 Layer Slow Cooker Dish

Should be fun for all and something new, but I hope it sticks and that we all really enjoy it.
